I wanted to bring Dr. Mae Carol Jemison to the Black History Month party of amazing women. Mae is a brilliant woman who is a physician and NASA Astronaut. She is the first black woman to travel in space on Space Shuttle Endeavour in 1992. She is such a gorgeous being. I recreated her astronaut look with a orange blazer, galaxy skirt, a simple black top and a bright blue shoe. I added the Moschino belt to break up the top and skirt. Pink nails are a staple of mine so adding the glitter is totally appropriate for the NASA and space theme!
How will you recreate this look?

Today I wanted to celebrate another day in Black History Month by shining light on Madame CJ Walker. I actually did a project on her in the 10th grade. Her story is so inspiring. She started by selling her homemade beauty products door to door to help supplement her household income for her and her child after her husband passed. She didn’t know it would turn into the hair phenomenon that it did.
In her picture she is wearing a white ruffle top and simple jewelry. I recreated her look with a LuLu Frost twist! I absolutely LOVE LuLu Frost jewelry so I had to include it in this set. I also added some funky flare with polka dot denim and white wedge sneakers. I included some bronzer to keep the makeup simple.
Today I wanted to focus on one of my favorite Jazz Singers of all time…Ella Fitzgerald. She is known as the “Queen of Song”. During her time as an artist she transcended all the race and ethnicity issues and was known for her amazing talent.
Here I recreated her look but I added my Wrk IT Girl twist. I loved this blue silk dress because it’s simple enough but the way it’s designed makes it pop on it’s own. Ella is wearing a coral lip, so I wanted to of course include that element and I personally love a great coral lip! And since she has big hair, I would curl my hair with some soft curls and sweep all of my hair to one side.
How will you recreate the Queen of Song’s look?

Today I wanted to shine light on the fact that it’s Black History Month but I wanted to shake it up by including fashion as well!
Toni Morrison is the first black woman to win a Nobel Prize for Literature and she won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. Next to her great accomplishments is her great sense of style. I am one who really appreciates and respects a person’s sense of style. I love that she keeps it conservative and professional and stays true to her PERSONAL style. I wanted to recreate her look in the photo but with my own personal twist.
I included a big chunky pearl necklace because that would be more my style. I love dramatic pieces (I guess that says something about my personality, you think?). I added a simple black cardigan and the Smashbox Burgundy Red lip.
Stay tuned for more amazing women to be celebrated for the rest of this month!

Hey y’all! How are you these days? I’ve been really busy getting out some newness for you all! I’m so excited to reveal (more…)
For day 8 of the 28 day challenge I wore a floral top with tassels on it and dark denim jeans to the Japanese Gardens. I knew I would be doing a lot of walking and I wanted to keep my outfit simple but cute. As you all know, I don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day (well I did get my mom a card and mini chocolates, but that’s as far as I go) so I decided to (more…)
Today I finally received what I ordered from IN Pink Jewelry. They are a California based company that I stumbled upon last year and I finally brought myself to order some of their pieces. I don’t like to buy accessories unless I feel they are unique or they have something about them that intrigues me.
I chose to buy the black earring with sparkle. If you know me, you know that I love sparkle! So when I saw these I had to get them because I feel that it’s not common to find them in black either. I also loved the gold dangle earrings. I feel like they were unusual to and not like anything I’ve seen before. They are also not too heavy and don’t weigh down my ears. And last but not least I found these bright orange ornament looking earrings. Since spring/summer season is right around the corner I had to get them! I love color and I felt this was a great way to incorporate color into my wardrobe.
If you’re in the market to buy any accessories I recommend checking out IN Pink‘s website.
This post was not sponsored. I bought the products with my own money.
For day 7 of the 28day challenge (yes I know I’m off but whatev), I am wearing an off-white peacoat and multi-color printed dress with nude pumps. I wanted to give you a sneak peak inside the tents of New York Fashion Week!
There are several different booths of sponsors and of course Mercedes-Benz and there are so many people and famous faces that walk through the venue to get to the next show. I got some cosmetic samples from Maybelline, I took at picture at the Style booth and sent a Valentine’s Day card to my family from the Papyrus booth and so much more! I also took the subway to catch a quick peek into Fashion Institute of Technology. I went to the museum at FIT and saw the Shoe Collection exhibit which featured the top designers from around the world (picture taking was prohibited inside the exhibit, sorry y’all). I was drooling the entire time over those gorgeous works of art. Check out the pictures from inside the tents!

What I’m Wearing:
- Trench Coat: Kenneth Cole
- Dress: Zara
- Shoes: Steve Madden
As many of you might know, Nemo decided to find us this year at New York Fashion Week. Despite the snow, slush and ice, we are all still finding our way back to Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. Rain boots and all. My original planned outfit for today involved tall leather stiletto boots, but I reluctantly opted for rubber rain boots as I trek through iced sidewalks and brown puddles of melted snow.
Last night had winds and ice that literally felt like a slap to the face from a human. Unable to see as I walked to find the subway entrance I notice that the streets have suddenly become ghost as everyone heads for shelter. Despite Nemo bringing with it a blizzard, this morning brought beautiful sunlight and white snow capped statues in front of the Met. I went to Central Park and watched the kids sled with their parents and teenagers playing football (with no jackets on might I add. They could catch pneumonia!). I must say, this was one of the most adventurous trips to New York City I could have imagined. I wouldn’t have it any other way. Wrk It Girl in The Big Apple, and not the last!

Today I had the pleasure of viewing Czar by Cesar Galindo’s Fall 2013 collection. He has some amazingly constructed pieces with fur statements and draped parachute-like bottoms. I feel like he had a common ground amongst all of his pieces and that was flow and sophistication. That is totally my style. I love mixing classy or sophisticated with edgy or statement pieces. I definitely see myself in his creations and incorporating them into my current wardrobe. I absolutely loved this collection!
For those of you who don’t know, this is my very first New York Fashion Week! I am so happy and blessed to be able to provide you all an inside look into NYFW and exclusive footage from the show! I personally really love this designer because not only does he create beautiful garments, but we are both from the South. Seeing that someone from Houston can get out of a conservative town and immerse himself in the NYC culture and make it out alive is so inspiring to me! I feel like that has been the theme of this trip for me…Inspiration. I have met so many amazing people and to hear about their journeys and how they never gave up is what I want to project on to you all. Fight for your dreams! Make them a reality!
I remember day dreaming when I was younger, literally laying down on the concrete driveway and staring into the sky. The sky was always so fascinating to me with all the wonder and curiosity it held. I would watch the clouds slowly drift by and I would imagine myself in New York City at fashion week. I imagined myself mingling and connecting with established people and wanting to leave my foot print somewhere on this Earth. Fast forward to today and I have had several “pinch me” moments since I’ve been here. I am almost driven to tears because as I am writing this because Mercedes Benz Fashion Week has become my reality. Being a fashion writer has become my reality. Mingling and connecting with established people has become my reality. How did I get here? I fought really hard. I fought with myself. I was my biggest battle. Once I figured out that my self-doubts was the only barrier I had in my way, I was able to get out of my own way and figure out how I would get to where I want to be. I still have a LONG way to go, but I must say that I can finally say I am proud of myself.
I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for the amazing supporters I have in my life (family, friends, colleagues). Thank you!
