IOMA Skincare Launch Party

Hello there friends! Today I am sharing an amazing new skincare line that merges technology and beauty. Yes, technology and beauty, who knew!?

This line originated in Paris and they are exclusively at Saks Fifth Avenue Locations. The party had champagne and light bites with an amazing singer who performed live with a pianist. The whole vibe was just amazing!

I worked with Kathy from IOMA and she took me through the entire process step-by-step starting with my skin analysis. The skin analysis is done on a globe-like machine and it takes pictures of your face with different types of light. It takes about 2 minutes and then you get your personalized analysis along with recommendations to treat and improve your skin. I personally have very dehydrated and a lot of bacterial activity on my skin especially due to the climate I live in, so I was put into group 1. Group one focuses on hydration and UV damage. Although I had little to no UV damage, I do have dry skin. Kathy gave me a few samples that I’m super excited to try. I found out that I am washing my face with too harsh of a soap so I was given a gentle exfoliant, a sample of the mask, and the cream for hydration.

I cannot wait to share the results!

Cold/Flu Season Blues

My Hot Curry Soup and Hot Ginger Tea when I had a cold. So yummy and also made me feel so much better.

I had the cold (borderline flu) this winter season and I felt terrible!!! I had a nasty cough, I couldn’t get out of bed, my headaches were terrible and I had the worse stuffy nose.
I took a visit at the doctor and since I went in on the third day of my fever they were unable to prescribe me Tamiflu (which doesn’t cure the flu, it just helps get rid of the symptoms a little faster). As an alternative I was instructed to gets lots of rest, drink fluids, and drink teas and eat soup.
These are the cliché doctor’s orders you’ll hear but they actually really work if you do them!
So I slept for almost an entire day, when I did eat I had warm chicken noodle soup, and I drank hot tea. The tea (or any hot liquid for that matter) helps break up any nasty-ness in your chest (if not then it’ll turn into pneumonia or bronchitis and that’s no fun). The sleep just helped your body to fight off that virus and recharge.
I’m no doctor, but I followed my doctor’s orders and it worked for me! I did take over-the-counter cold/flu meds only at night, but for the most part I was medicine free!
I just wanted to share my experience with you all and to advise to stay home if you are sick and you really do need rest! Don’t go to work or school because you’ll spread the germs.

Workout & Nutrition Favs!

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a great holiday weekend and had lots of yummy eats with family and friends. I am a food lover. I love all sorts of foods and I can eat all day. I know that in the long run this is not a good habit so I make sure to keep myself in a consistent “fit” routine. I workout several times a week not only to keep a nice figure, but more importantly I feel so much better about life in general after a good workout. I feel more optimistic and clear-headed if I am being active.

Lately I’ve had several people ask me what’s my workout routine or what types of workouts do I participate in? Honestly I am always mixing it up. I get bored if I do the same routine every single day, so every day it’s something different. I recently just got another gym membership, so I’ll be using that more often because it’s getting cold and I can’t stand working out in the cold weather. But other days I visit the resources below and really hope you guys check them out. They’re awesome!

I love this ladies’ website! She is so amazing and she explains everything she’s doing and why it’s good for you. She has several full-length workouts as well and they’re free!!! She also has great nutrition advice as well. As much as I like her, I don’t visit that regularly just because she has kind of a dry personality and she’s not as energetic as I’d like her to be, but she is still amazing at her craft.

This is my favorite resource that I’ve found so far! This girl has some super fun workout videos, really informative nutrition advice and I really like that she’s so energetic and positive. I visit her website and do her workouts regularly.

Have you had Water today?

I drink a lot of water throughout my day. From the time I wake up to the time I go to bed (which I probably shouldn’t drink water before bed because I always have to get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom). I recently kept track of how much water I drink at work alone.
We accidentally ordered these large 20 ounce cups for the office so I started to fill those all the way up to the top with water and just drinking water as I normally would. I found that I drank 80 ounces a day (4-20ounce cups) of water. There are 128 ounces of water in 1 gallon! So that doesn’t include what I drink when I first wake up and throughout my evening when I’m at home. So to give you a good guestimate, I drink about a gallon of water per day.
Don’t get me wrong; it was not an easy road getting to this point. I used to be a hardcore soda drinker! Yea I said it. I drank soda! Soda made me very sluggish, gassy, and worst of all, it made my skin break out. My skin was horrible and I couldn’t figure out why. I made a connection this is was because of what I ate and drank because I gave up soda and eating bad for Lint earlier this year and my body felt amazing during that period of time.
Since I have started drinking water I noticed my skin texture and tone have improved dramatically. I get many compliments and people ask me what I have been doing differently. They have mentioned they notice a glow and I have a lot less blemishes on my face. Well the secret is: no coffee (because it dehydrates and makes your skin look dry), lots of water, and moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!!!
Another benefit from drinking more water is healthier digestive systems and it flushes out toxins from your body.
So I just wanted to share with you secret to feeling more energized and having healthier looking skin. I hope this helps!

Crossfit

I recently joined a crossfit team to shake up and do something different for a workout routine. OH MY GOODNESS am I out of shape! I work out regularly, but I haven’t done anything this athletic and intense in so long. I have been in athletics since the age of 8 starting with track & basketball followed by Tennis. I don’t play Tennis as often as I used to, so my endurance and strength level has definitely gone down.

The first day I went, we lifted bars with huge weights on either side. It was so intimidating at first. But later I learned that it was the equivalent of picking up a 3 year old child haha! We also did box jumps which are definitely a lot harder than it looks. And I learned how to do a proper push up! Our coach, Phil, is really cool and motivating. Seeing the way he and his students look is proof that crossfit really works.

What I immediately fell in love with is that you are working out with a small group of people, so it was great to meet new people with the same mentality or goals as mine when it comes to health and fitness.

I cannot wait to share pictures of my experience and the progression of my body. My personal goal is to tone up a bit and increase endurance.

Healthy Foods To Eat During The Day

Hello All!!! I am so excited about my next series. It is called Healthy Foods To Eat During The Day. I will go through some options/choices of what to eat to help you make it through that long day of class, long day at work, or just a healthier snack choice at home.

I must admit, it is so hard for me to “eat healthy”. Sometimes I just want that greasy taco or indulge in that amazing Coca-cola. Mmmmm, my mouth is watering just thinking about it! But, as I get older, and each day goes by, I realize that I will wake up and be OLD! My goal is to try and take care of my body so that I can stick around on this planet for a little bit longer. I want to have a good quality of life while I’m at it.

Where’s my coffee?! Part 3

My final update on my new “no caffeine” journey. I officially have no more headaches! Yay! I am so pleased about that. It about a week and a half for that to go away. I was in so much pain all the time. I feel a lot more clear, I feel like I live a cleaner lifestyle as far as health goes. I think my true motivation behind all this was my scare a couple weeks ago when I went to the emergency room for an allergic reaction. I have never had a problem with what I ate, and next thing I knew I was in the emergency room.

I am now a lot more conscious of what I put into my body. I saw the allergist on Friday and I have a follow up appointment in a couple weeks and that’s when I’ll find out what it was that caused this reaction.

Anyway, I am now happy to say that I no longer drink caffeine. And if I do, it’ll be rare. No more on a regular basis. I am so glad I stuck through it. It was definitely a tough road, but it actually has motivated me to fight more battles. This journey has taught me that even though it hurts, even though it’s tough, the end of the road is much brighter. The rewards are much greater if you stick to it.  This was my mini lesson on perseverance.

Where’s my coffee?! Part 2

So I’ve been off of this caffeine for officially 1 week! What a rocky road that has been. I have had the worst headaches ever! I’ve been very irritable and sleepy. Today was actually the first day that the headaches were not as bad. I have noticed that when I eat fresh fruits, my headache pain is lightened up a bit. And I have been drinking lots of water too, so I’m sure that has helped with the process. I went for a workout at the gym today and I feel a lot lighter. I feel like I have energy. More energy than usual. Maybe it’s mental, but I do feel like I’m a lot healthier these days. I have been eating salads a lot this week as well, and that has made me feel and look a lot better as well. My skin has definitely seen a huge difference with a little to no blemishes.

I’m really excited to finally have these side effects gone! I’ll keep you all posted on my “no caffeine” journey.
