Workout & Nutrition Favs!

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a great holiday weekend and had lots of yummy eats with family and friends. I am a food lover. I love all sorts of foods and I can eat all day. I know that in the long run this is not a good habit so I make sure to keep myself in a consistent “fit” routine. I workout several times a week not only to keep a nice figure, but more importantly I feel so much better about life in general after a good workout. I feel more optimistic and clear-headed if I am being active.

Lately I’ve had several people ask me what’s my workout routine or what types of workouts do I participate in? Honestly I am always mixing it up. I get bored if I do the same routine every single day, so every day it’s something different. I recently just got another gym membership, so I’ll be using that more often because it’s getting cold and I can’t stand working out in the cold weather. But other days I visit the resources below and really hope you guys check them out. They’re awesome!

BeFit Youtube Channel

BeFit has some good workouts…not all are full length, only some of them.

I love this ladies’ website! She is so amazing and she explains everything she’s doing and why it’s good for you. She has several full-length workouts as well and they’re free!!! She also has great nutrition advice as well. As much as I like her, I don’t visit that regularly just because she has kind of a dry personality and she’s not as energetic as I’d like her to be, but she is still amazing at her craft.

This is my favorite resource that I’ve found so far! This girl has some super fun workout videos, really informative nutrition advice and I really like that she’s so energetic and positive. I visit her website and do her workouts regularly.

I hope this helps, and I’ll be sure to share more fitness and nutrition resources I find with you all! xoxo

Fashion Houston 2012

Last week I attended Fashion Houston 2012! I was so happy to be able to attend. It was definitely an unforgettable experience. The week of events was sponsored by Audi, so the cocktail hour had Audi cars out on display and many neat booths with designers and fashion/art schools giving out brochures of their schools.

I wore some pieces found from a boutique in Austin, Texas called Arttie’s. I have only been there once, but I absolutely loved their clothes and the style of their boutique was a young chic vibe. The pricing is right up my ally as well as this outift (leggings and top) was under $75. The quality of the clothing I would say is a step above Forever 21 (probably around a H&M or Arden B level). I don’t like spending money on pieces that I feel will tear up after the first wash, but I would totally recommend this boutique. The buyers definitely know how to select clothing and they provide great service to their customers. I am a HUGE stickler for customer service and experience. I am the type of person that you will gain a loyal customer or lose me in the first few minutes I step foot into your establishment. With that said, I had a great time shopping at Arttie’s. I definitely got compliments and will be shopping there again the next time I go to Austin.

I chose the black pleather leggings and a deep V top that is sheer all over, so I had to put a black cami underneath, but other than that, this outfit was simple yet super trendy. I usually wear lots of color, so this was a tad uncomfortable for me in that sense. I feel like all black outfits are depressing and drag down my mood, but the top was a deep navy blue so I felt like I had a little color going on. I paired it with wedge booties from Shasa that were about $28. I received a plethora of compliments on these as well. I was so shocked that the people wearing these ah-mazing designer pieces were giving ME compliments on my outfit that was under $100!!!! My friend, who came with was styled by JLMarc from a local H&M store. He was wearing a plaid bow tie, suspenders, powder blue pants, a blazer and nerd glasses (the powder blue pants & nerd glasses are not from H&M). JLMarc was amazing and so patient with me haha! I am pretty good at styling women’s wear, but I struggle with men’s clothing, so teaming up with JLMarc was a must for this high-profile event!

*Disclaimer: This post was not endorsed, sponsored by or paid for by any company. The products were all bought with my own money and I only write about and share things and experiences that I love.

The designers that I had the pleasure of viewing were Hervé Léger, Chloe Dao, Kevan Hall, and Rubin Singer. I also was able to actually meet Chloe Dao who is super sweet and a lot shorter than I imagined haha! I also met Kevan Hall who is very reserved, but is a sweetheart was well. I loved all of the designers, but if I HAD to choose a favorite of the night, it would probably be Rubin Singer. I am a fan of color and he used so many different colors and unique stitching to his pieces and the fabrics he used draped so beautifully in the models. Enjoy some of the snapshots I was able to take with the iPhone 5. I brought my Sony Bloggie, but there is no flash on that camera so the only pictures I have are candid phone shots.

Thank you all so much for visiting and I am so glad I am able to share an inside look into Fashion Houston 2012. I hope to see you all there next year! xoxo

“Never Give Up”

Hello everyone! I hope you’re having a wonderful Thursday so far! I went to the Fashion Houston 2012 event last night and it was an amazing experience. It definitely exceeded my expectations and blew my mind. The Fashion Houston event is a 4-day series of shows featuring amazing designers like Chloe Dao, Zac Posen, Monique Lhuillier, Hervé Léger and many more. My next post will have so many more pics and details of the event.

Right now I want to talk about how I met Yolanda Adams, who is a Gospel singer and has been very influential to me. I saw her and my breath was taken out of me. I mean I honestly realized that I wasn’t breathing for a second. I thought my eyes were deceiving me. But it really was her. I was so scared and nervous to ask her to take a picture but I knew I had to tell her how she has impacted my life. For some reason I expected her to be mean, and I think that’s what scared me the most. Rejection. She couldn’t be more opposite from mean. She was so nice and humble and she was like a breath of fresh air. She handled herself with grace and I was in love with her plaid coat with the fringed out arms. Fab. I told her that her song “never give up” really helped me through some hard times and she is an inspiration to me” and she said “I am so glad to hear that” and we took our picture. It took everything in me to not cry haha!

I went through some hardships around this time last year. I was very depressed and I didn’t know how to deal with it. I am the type of person that internalizes my emotions and I put on a face that everything is ok, when in reality I am hurting inside. I had a very “defeated” attitude and outlook on life. I felt stuck. I felt insecure. I felt like a disappointment. I felt lost.

Amidst all of the anguish I was going through, one day out of the blue while visiting my parents, my dad called me in the other room and said “pick out 2 cds and I’ll give the rest to your sister”. My sister is really into gospel music, but I personally never really listened to gospel music or never really cared to. I almost said “never mind dad, I’m good”, but something nudged me to go ahead and pick one out. I chose an Etta James and the Yolanda Adams cds. The only reason why I picked the Yolanda Adams cd was because I really liked her makeup and hair in her cover photo, haha!

Anyway, I popped it in to my cd player while in the car one day and I cried and cried just listening to the words she was singing. I listened to this song on repeat for days and weeks and it brought me to tears every time I heard it. I listened to it until I felt the strength to go on. I listened to it until I truly believed in myself again. This song really catapulted me to continue with life and make the best of. To really CHOOSE to be happy and stop dwelling on the hard times or the challenges you face. It helped me to continue to fight for my dreams no matter if no one believed in me or my vision.

I had to share with you all that meeting Yolanda was not to say “I met a celebrity” but it was really an emotional moment. In that moment, a year later, my life came to a “full circle moment” where she catapulted me to keep fighting (and through this year I must say I’ve fought hard and long)and now I am where I am today and I have met her in person and I had the opportunity to let her know how much I appreciate her sharing her gift and her passion with us.

I really hope that you all listen to her song (it can be found on youtube and it’s called “never give up”) and I hope that inspires one of you out there. Whoever you are.

Keep going for your dreams and do what you love. Do something that you’re passionate about, it can be anything. You will be an inspiration to someone or something. I am no where near where I want to be in life, but I am so proud that I have gotten this far.

It all started with my daddy giving me a cd. You never know what small moments will forever change your life.

Thank you so much for visiting! xoxo

BH Cosmetics Haul and Review

I recently purchased some items from BH Cosmetics and I have mixed feelings about it. My favorite item was the 120 Color Palette. The pigments are very rich and true to color. They stay on all day if you use an eyeshadow primer. I was reluctant to buy it in the first place because I got a palette from ELF cosmetics and I was unhappy with the pigments and their color payoff. It has an upper layer and lower lower and both are removable for easy handling. The packaging is great as well as it come in a gloss finish and I think it makes it look very fresh and professional.

I was moderately happy with the concealer and blush palettes. The concealer was ok. It feels kind of cakey when I apply it and it makes my skin dry out in the areas I used it on. The up-side to the concealer is that it does provide some pretty good coverage which is the whole point of concealer. So if you’re willing to end up with dry skin, then I say this is worth the money.

The blush palette is so-so as well. I was disappointed that there weren’t more shades of blush. There were only 2 shades of pink, a darker pink and a light pink. The rest of the palette is for contouring, which is fine, but I would have liked more blush colors to play with.

My least favorite item and that I would highly recommend NOT purchasing is the brush set. I believe all of their brushes are of the same quality. I took them out the package and just for kicks, I used a few of them with some of the blush and eyeshadows just to see how they felt on my skin and the brushes immediately started to shed! I mean shed! I had little black makeup brush hairs all over my face from just using them for a few seconds. They are so cheaply made and are not worth any amount of money. I bought some makeup brushes from Target just to give you an idea of the difference, the Target brushes are like Tory Burch and the BH Cosmetics brushes are like Payless. I am so disappointed and I will not purchase any tools from BH Cosmetics in the future. If you are looking for affordable makeup brushes, I highly recommend Target.

Thank you for visiting and I hope that this gives you an idea of BH Cosmetics products and if you have any questions on their products just leave a comment!

Fall 2012 Trend: Wedge Sneakers

Yesterday on my way to Target, I was particularly excited because I always love stopping by their shoe section just to see what gems I can find. And amongst all the normal knee high flat boots, and rain boots and heels there they were….the all black wedge sneaker!  I couldn’t resist, seeing as how I wanted the drool-worthy Isabel Marant’s but let’s just say they’re not in my budget right now haha! This is the “totally me” shoe. It’s the perfect shoe for the girly-girl who wants that comfort factor without having to put on a pair of 5-inch stilettos, or the chic tomboy that wants to add a little “look I’m a woman” to her outfit. I personally go between tomboy and girly-girl, depending on what side of the bed I wake up on (and weather).

I wore my shoes for the first time today and can you say comfort-licious?! I was a little under the weather, so this was the perfect option, I wanted to look cute, but I didn’t feel like going all out with a pair of stilettos and a dress (which I originally planned on wearing today).

*Just a side note*: Thank goodness for spell check, because no matter how often I get corrected when I spell stilettos I seem to always spell it wrong (with 2-L’s).

Enjoy some of my photography skills of my recent Target find. How do you feel about wedged sneakers? Love it or hate it?

Sweden Fashion & Beauty Haul

I am so excited to share with you my fashion and beauty finds all the way from Stockholm, Sweden. I found some great pieces from Vero Moda. I had never been there before so I was especially excited to see what I could find. I am a very picky shopper and I am very particular on color, fit, fabric, etc., but surprisingly there was so much that I wanted to buy. Since I knew I was going to be visiting other stores in the massive galleria I settled on my favorite pieces. I found a red flowey top and the first time I wore it I got so many compliments. It’s simple, but the cut was very unique. My next favorite is the long sleeve white top that has some great gold detailing in the buttons. I love gold so this piece was a must for me. My aunt actually found this black top that I thought was a dress at first, but when I tried it on I realized it was a long shirt. My favorite part is the drawstring to synch up the waist and again that gold detailing in the buttons is what caught my eye.

The next place I went to was TopShop. Again I was so excited because I had never been to TopShop so I couldn’t wait to check it out. I found this peachy colored dress on sale 50% off! I was so happy as I am a major bargain shopper. I love that the bottom goes away from my body giving me the illusion that I have a waist. The next place we migrated to was Gina Tricot. My aunt found this gem of a peplum top but it’s a sheer black fabric. I fell in love with it soon as I saw it because it’s a unique and different piece that not everyone would choose or flock to. I like to be different even if it’s as minor as a different cut in fabric, or little buttons.

That’s it for the fashion portion, for my beauty and accessories find, I found these gorgeous earrings at a store called G. I love love love color and I love accessories. I almost didn’t go into this store but I did a quick walk through and was so glad I did. I can’t wait to rock these!

I also went to a place called Kicks that’s equivalent to a Sephora. I found some awesome fall nail polishes, a lotion (that supports breast cancer awareness), and a nail polish correcting pen. I am wearing the deep burgundy nail polish right now and I’ve gotten a few compliments on the color. The final thing I found was this uh-mazing smelling lotion from a store called Pub (pronounced “poop”). It literally smells like a bouquet of flowers! I bought one for my mom and myself.

Thanks for visiting and I’ll be showing you some outfits that I put together with my Swedish fashion, beauty, and accessory finds!

Swedish Adventures: Bye Bye Stockholm!!!

The last day I spent some time with my brother and mom…we walked around the city a bit and did a little sight seeing. Then after that we had coffee at a really nice café in the bohemian part of town. There were lots of pictures of actors on the walls. I didn’t recognize any of them, but it was still cool nonetheless.

After our coffee break, we went to Pub (pronounced poop!) and amongst Pub were so many amazing designer stores like Gucci, Burberry, Prada, Michael Kors, and so many more. Pub is like a more awesome version of Neimans or Saks. It was so nice and elegant in there. I think I was so impressed because there were brands that I had never heard of. It made me feel like I had so much more to discover in the fashion world. I came across a very nice gentleman named Patrick who surprisingly knew all about the Houston Rockets! It felt like I had a little bit of home talking to him because he was so knowledgeable about the Houston Rockets. Although I no longer live there, I still consider H-town my home. What initially caught my attention was his sense of style and perfectly tailored suit right down to his polished shoes. I asked if he was wearing head to to Hugo Boss and he said, “Everything except my shirt. My shirt is a Dutch brand.”. I had to take a picture so I can share what I thought a very well dressed man and he posed very nicely (see below).

I loved the beauty section because there were some brands that I had never heard of. I came across this amazing floral smelling lotion by Crabtree & Evelyn that I literally could not pass up. It’s the Summer Hill scent and I told my mom to try it out and she too fell in love with it. So I ended up buying 2!

That evening we had dinner with my brother, sister in law and baby Ella for the last meal before we headed back to the states. The trip back felt so much longer than on the way there. That was probably largely due to the fact that we woke up at 3 am in hopes to catch the 6:30am flight but they said we weren’t able to switch seats without paying an outrageous amount. By the time we got back to the states we had been awake for about 24 hours (because it’s impossible for me to sleep on planes even with sleeping pills I still don’t sleep.). My luggage ended up staying in Germany where our connection was, so I didn’t have access to my awesome souvenirs for about 3 days. Ugh! What a nightmare that was. Thankfully I got it back and I cannot wait to show you all what goodies I ended up with! Enjoy some pictures I captured of my adventure down below.

Thanks for visiting!!!

Swedish Adventures: Stockholm Day 4 & 5

Day 4 we went to a place called Skanssen. It is sort of a theme park/zoo. They had animals like seals, reindeer, bears, birds and rabbits. I had an ok time…it rained to whole time and it was an outdoor event so I would have rather been in the hotel snuggled in a blanket watching America’s Next Top Model (which they played re-runs the entire time we were there).

Day 5 was my favorite day (besides seeing my niece for the first time lol)! We went SHOPPING!!!! Yay! I went to some of my favorite stores that I don’t have access to in the states and I also experienced some new places as well. My favorite was Vero Moda. I was surprised at how much I loved their selection. And of course Top Shop was awesome. It was my first time there so I was really excited to experience that. I can’t wait to show you guys what I picked out. I also went to a store called Kicks, which is our equivalent to Sephora.  I got some awesome fall nail polishes from there. Stay tuned for a Stockholm Haul!!!!

One thing I do want to point out is their mall food. They have nothing but healthy food everywhere you go. Nothing fried or high in fat. For lunch I had a panini with minimal cheese and meat and it came with a large salad. It was the best mall food ever!

Swedish Adventures: Stockholm Day 3

On Tuesday, October 2, we finally went to the National Museum where we learned a little about the history of Stockholm and Sweden. Their culture really is a combination of influences from Asia, India and Africa. Some of the art, tapestries and furniture were imported from foreign artists.

After the National Museum we went to the Nobel Museum where they display and talk about past Nobel Prize Winners and how they are selected and the history of Nobel. It was one of my favorite things we did.

After the museums we went to dinner at a steak house and it was amazing. You could only order the steak well, medium, or rare. There was no medium-rare or medium-well. I ordered mine Medium. I had it with mixed veggies and fries. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. That was the celebration of my niece’s first week on this Earth. She slept through her entire party lol!

Swedish Adventures: Stockholm Day 2

The next day in Stockholm we tried to get in to the National Museum, but it was closed! So then we tried to go into the Nobel Museum (where the Nobel prize winners are selected) and that too was closed! I was surprised because I thought everyone worked on Mondays. I guess not in Sweden. So we walked around the palace a bit and notice that people were all crowding around the entrance. Guards began to line up. I thought “oh my goodness the king and queen are about to show up and walk right in front of us!”. We all stood in front of the roped off area as the guards controlled the crowd. The men in uniform began to chant, and make formations and twirl around their guns. They marched in opposite directions (one group heading south and the other heading north). They switched guards and then the ceremony was over. To my disappointment, it was just the changing of the guards. It was cool to see and experience, but I guess I expected to see something more “grand”.

After the changing of the guards’ ceremony I was starving and so was everyone else. We found this little dungeon looking restaurant that was an underground cafe. It seemed kind of spooky from the medieval times with its barely-there lighting with just candles and a few lamps lit, and all of the furniture was old and miss-match. They had a lunch menu and all they offered were pizzas or baked potatoes. So my cousin and aunt ordered a Hawaiian pizza and my mom and I had a Kebab pizza (with beef, peppers, onion, cheese).  The food was pretty good and it came with a side salad that included peas and corn (which I can’t stand the taste of either).

Now that we were re-fueled we went to the Cathedral of Stockholm. I believe it’s a Protestant Cathedral. I noticed that there was no holy water when you first walk in, which is indicative of a Catholic Cathedral, and Sweden is predominately Protestant, so that’s the reason for the guess. The Cathedral was gorgeous. I noticed that there wasn’t much color, in comparison to the cathedrals I have been to in Mexico, Spain and Italy. There was however lots of Gold and Ivory. It was very ornate.

After the visit to the Cathedral we headed back to the hotel and closed out our day. Stay tuned for Day 3 in my Stockholm adventure!

Thanks for visiting!
