If you follow me on instagram then you’ll know that I recently came back from Playa del Carmen. I hadn’t been on a vacation in about 3 years, so this was especially exciting for me! The first day was a bit overcast but I still had to visit the beach and feel the sand in my toes. One thing that people don’t know about me, except for my super close friends and family, is that I have the worst flight anxiety. I absolutely love visiting new places and taking in different cultures. From the food to dance to customs, but the flights are sometimes so unbearable I’ve had random people offer me Xanax out of sheer pity. Yes, it’s that bad. Thankfully I made it and I am quit proud of myself this time. I still had a little freak out but it definitely wasn’t as bad as past flights where I’ve broke down crying and praying for the flight to be over. I’m a work in progress to say the least.
For the 13th day of the 28day challenge I’m totally rocking my summer-wear in my floral shorts and jean sleeveless top with ruffle detail on the shoulders and polka dots. I loved this top so much when I saw that I literally took it off the mannequin because it was the last one in my size. Talk about determined.
Stay tuned for more of my Playa del Carmen, MX adventures!

- Top: Papaya boutique
- Shorts: Floral jean shorts Papaya

A couple days ago I went to Top Golf in Katy, Texas and although I’m no golf pro, I love playing golf. On this 12th day of the 28 day challenge, I wore a frilly white top from Arden B. and green skinny jeans. I also wore some fabric flats that I got from H&M about 2 years ago. I just can’t let them go. It got pretty cold that night, so luckily I brought a little white cardigan to keep me warm.
If you’ve followed my Facebook, you’ll find that I’ve been playing Tennis for about 12 years. It’s my first love, but I am having so much fun with golf these days. Top Golf is a social golfing venue where you can order food, drinks, play foosball, Wii, and other social games. The environment is so fun and relaxed and the food is not bad either. I am a huge foodie so if the food is halfway decent, then I’m always down to go!
Don’t be fooled, there are plenty of beginners that head that way as well. You put your name on a list and then you’re assigned a deck number (kind of like getting a table for a restaurant) and then you have your little spot where you hit your balls from. Check out my follow through. I look pretty funny and I still have a lot of practicing to do before I head to a PGA tour.
Are there any golf lovers out there?! Thanks for visiting!

A couple days ago Wrk IT Girl’s birthday was celebrated at the ever so gorgeous Dryden Kreps boutique at City Center in Houston, Texas. The store’s vibe was very sophisticated and refreshing with a hint of fascinating. They provided royal treatment with cocktails and yummy bites catered from a Mexican restaurant just across the way and they didn’t shy out on the cocktails either. Let’s just say we were in for a good time.
Their style experts were extremely knowledgable about the latest trends and were really diligent in helping you incorporate that into your personal style. Their gorgeous suits were like pieces of art as you’re able to have them custom tailored to your liking and you can do the same for the women’s wear as well.
I had the pleasure of meeting the VP of Dryden Kreps and he was a very sharp man, not only in his dress but his personality. He was so sweet and inviting and really made our experience enjoyable. I have been to many boutiques but I felt the differentiator is the A-list service, attention to detail, and their style experts knowledge. I will definitely be returning to Dryden Kreps for that VIP experience.

I went to the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo last week and I saw Mary J. Blige. I’m not usually a cowboy boot wearing gal, but for this occasion I felt obligated to delve myself into the “Texas” culture. It was a great experience as I had never been to the actual livestock show before. For those of you who don’t know what the livestock show is, it’s an exhibit where livestock (cattle) are judged on specific traits of their particular breed. The Rodeo, which is my favorite part, is a competition where cowboys show their skills at bull riding, roping calfs, and wrestling steers(A steer is a castrated bull. They are said to be calmer.).
The Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo always has a carriage race which is always exciting and crowd interactive. There is also a calf scramble where young teens rope a calf to gain a scholarship. It’s actually really funny to watch because the calfs run away and all the teens are trying to catch them. When they do finally rope them, the calfs won’t move. They literally stand there like a statue as the teens try and get them to move. Then at the end of it all there is a concert to follow all the fun. The night I went was Black Heritage night, so the performing artist was Mary J. Blige. She was amazing and so soulful as always.
I wanted to share this with those of you around the world who have never been and get an inside look at what really goes on!

Hey y’all! How are you these days? I’ve been really busy getting out some newness for you all! I’m so excited to reveal (more…)
Today I wanted to let you all know that I’ve been working non-stop during Houston NBA All-Star Weekend! I am a makeup artist so I have been beautifying women for the past week! So I just wanted to touch base and let you all know (more…)
As many of you might know, Nemo decided to find us this year at New York Fashion Week. Despite the snow, slush and ice, we are all still finding our way back to Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. Rain boots and all. My original planned outfit for today involved tall leather stiletto boots, but I reluctantly opted for rubber rain boots as I trek through iced sidewalks and brown puddles of melted snow.
Last night had winds and ice that literally felt like a slap to the face from a human. Unable to see as I walked to find the subway entrance I notice that the streets have suddenly become ghost as everyone heads for shelter. Despite Nemo bringing with it a blizzard, this morning brought beautiful sunlight and white snow capped statues in front of the Met. I went to Central Park and watched the kids sled with their parents and teenagers playing football (with no jackets on might I add. They could catch pneumonia!). I must say, this was one of the most adventurous trips to New York City I could have imagined. I wouldn’t have it any other way. Wrk It Girl in The Big Apple, and not the last!

Today I had the pleasure of viewing Czar by Cesar Galindo’s Fall 2013 collection. He has some amazingly constructed pieces with fur statements and draped parachute-like bottoms. I feel like he had a common ground amongst all of his pieces and that was flow and sophistication. That is totally my style. I love mixing classy or sophisticated with edgy or statement pieces. I definitely see myself in his creations and incorporating them into my current wardrobe. I absolutely loved this collection!
For those of you who don’t know, this is my very first New York Fashion Week! I am so happy and blessed to be able to provide you all an inside look into NYFW and exclusive footage from the show! I personally really love this designer because not only does he create beautiful garments, but we are both from the South. Seeing that someone from Houston can get out of a conservative town and immerse himself in the NYC culture and make it out alive is so inspiring to me! I feel like that has been the theme of this trip for me…Inspiration. I have met so many amazing people and to hear about their journeys and how they never gave up is what I want to project on to you all. Fight for your dreams! Make them a reality!
I remember day dreaming when I was younger, literally laying down on the concrete driveway and staring into the sky. The sky was always so fascinating to me with all the wonder and curiosity it held. I would watch the clouds slowly drift by and I would imagine myself in New York City at fashion week. I imagined myself mingling and connecting with established people and wanting to leave my foot print somewhere on this Earth. Fast forward to today and I have had several “pinch me” moments since I’ve been here. I am almost driven to tears because as I am writing this because Mercedes Benz Fashion Week has become my reality. Being a fashion writer has become my reality. Mingling and connecting with established people has become my reality. How did I get here? I fought really hard. I fought with myself. I was my biggest battle. Once I figured out that my self-doubts was the only barrier I had in my way, I was able to get out of my own way and figure out how I would get to where I want to be. I still have a LONG way to go, but I must say that I can finally say I am proud of myself.
I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for the amazing supporters I have in my life (family, friends, colleagues). Thank you!

Day 5 of the 28-day challenge I wore a brown jacket with faux fur around the hood and a leopard scarf. I paired these items with black pleather pants and wedge sneakers. This was the perfect outfit for this super cold weather out here in NYC! Last night I studied the map of where I needed to walk to catch the subway and after much confusion and frustration I finally got a sense of where I was in relation to the buildings and streets. Despite all of the studying I had done, I still ended up getting lost, but much to my surprise the people here are very helpful and quite approachable. I finally made it to the subway and when I got off at my stop I managed to get lost again! I literally walked back to my starting point, and went every single direction until I finally was going the correct way. Of course I didn’t ask for directions, that was the pride in me.
Anyway, I finally ended up at the Independent Fashion Blogger’s Conference and I had an amazing, information filled, and fun-filled day! I met super model Tyson Beckford and he was super nice and his abs were super hard, just like I had imagined they would be. I got my makeup done by BareMinerals Cosmetics and they also gave me some free swag as well! I also met Lisa Salzer CEO and Founder of LuLu Frost jewelry line. Her story was very inspiring and touching of how she fought for what she wanted and how she got there. I had an opportunity to speak with her after the seminar and she was so nice and inviting. I let her know how her story resonated with me and she encouraged me to keep going for what I love. I am so glad I met her!
I can’t wait for what tomorrow will bring!

It’s day 4 of the 28 day challenge and I have finally made it to New York City!!! I am very excited, anxious, curious, happy, nervous, confused, and those are just a few of my emotions! Last night as I was packing, I used that time to reflect over the past year and the inception and birth of Wrk It Girl. It came from a place of longing to provide you all with a way to be expressive and independent starting with your style & beauty and encouraging that attitude to bleed into other areas of your life (career, relationship, etc.). My philosophy is if you look good, you feel good; if you feel good, you do good. I realized that it in turn motivated and inspired myself! I have catapulted myself to have a “practice what you preach” attitude and it has led me to many great opportunities, including coming to NYFW for the first time. Wrk It Girl has forced me to be accountable and be a woman of my word. I cannot begin to express the gratitude for the support that Wrk It Girl’s fans has brought me. All of you who have been there since day one, I want you to know that you do not go unnoticed. You all are my Valentine this year and I want you to know how much I love you all and appreciate you all. Thank you so much!
For all of my Valentine’s out there, I am wearing a bright coral colored dress with a floral embroidered vintage coat. I love this look because it is romantic and sexy. It accentuates the small waist and flares out at the bottom for that romantic feel. I paired it with nude heels from Bakers that are so comfortable I can stand in them for hours.
Stayed tuned for more of Wrk It Girl’s adventures, experiences, and our fashion & beauty journey.
