For day 8 of the 28 day challenge I wore a floral top with tassels on it and dark denim jeans to the Japanese Gardens. I knew I would be doing a lot of walking and I wanted to keep my outfit simple but cute. As you all know, I don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day (well I did get my mom a card and mini chocolates, but that’s as far as I go) so I decided to Continue reading →
Today I finally received what I ordered from IN Pink Jewelry. They are a California based company that I stumbled upon last year and I finally brought myself to order some of their pieces. I don’t like to buy accessories unless I feel they are unique or they have something about them that intrigues me.
I chose to buy the black earring with sparkle. If you know me, you know that I love sparkle! So when I saw these I had to get them because I feel that it’s not common to find them in black either. I also loved the gold dangle earrings. I feel like they were unusual to and not like anything I’ve seen before. They are also not too heavy and don’t weigh down my ears. And last but not least I found these bright orange ornament looking earrings. Since spring/summer season is right around the corner I had to get them! I love color and I felt this was a great way to incorporate color into my wardrobe.
If you’re in the market to buy any accessories I recommend checking out IN Pink‘s website.
This post was not sponsored. I bought the products with my own money.
For day 7 of the 28day challenge (yes I know I’m off but whatev), I am wearing an off-white peacoat and multi-color printed dress with nude pumps. I wanted to give you a sneak peak inside the tents of New York Fashion Week!
There are several different booths of sponsors and of course Mercedes-Benz and there are so many people and famous faces that walk through the venue to get to the next show. I got some cosmetic samples from Maybelline, I took at picture at the Style booth and sent a Valentine’s Day card to my family from the Papyrus booth and so much more! I also took the subway to catch a quick peek into Fashion Institute of Technology. I went to the museum at FIT and saw the Shoe Collection exhibit which featured the top designers from around the world (picture taking was prohibited inside the exhibit, sorry y’all). I was drooling the entire time over those gorgeous works of art. Check out the pictures from inside the tents!
As many of you might know, Nemo decided to find us this year at New York Fashion Week. Despite the snow, slush and ice, we are all still finding our way back to Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. Rain boots and all. My original planned outfit for today involved tall leather stiletto boots, but I reluctantly opted for rubber rain boots as I trek through iced sidewalks and brown puddles of melted snow.
Last night had winds and ice that literally felt like a slap to the face from a human. Unable to see as I walked to find the subway entrance I notice that the streets have suddenly become ghost as everyone heads for shelter. Despite Nemo bringing with it a blizzard, this morning brought beautiful sunlight and white snow capped statues in front of the Met. I went to Central Park and watched the kids sled with their parents and teenagers playing football (with no jackets on might I add. They could catch pneumonia!). I must say, this was one of the most adventurous trips to New York City I could have imagined. I wouldn’t have it any other way. Wrk It Girl in The Big Apple, and not the last!

Today I had the pleasure of viewing Czar by Cesar Galindo’s Fall 2013 collection. He has some amazingly constructed pieces with fur statements and draped parachute-like bottoms. I feel like he had a common ground amongst all of his pieces and that was flow and sophistication. That is totally my style. I love mixing classy or sophisticated with edgy or statement pieces. I definitely see myself in his creations and incorporating them into my current wardrobe. I absolutely loved this collection!
For those of you who don’t know, this is my very first New York Fashion Week! I am so happy and blessed to be able to provide you all an inside look into NYFW and exclusive footage from the show! I personally really love this designer because not only does he create beautiful garments, but we are both from the South. Seeing that someone from Houston can get out of a conservative town and immerse himself in the NYC culture and make it out alive is so inspiring to me! I feel like that has been the theme of this trip for me…Inspiration. I have met so many amazing people and to hear about their journeys and how they never gave up is what I want to project on to you all. Fight for your dreams! Make them a reality!
I remember day dreaming when I was younger, literally laying down on the concrete driveway and staring into the sky. The sky was always so fascinating to me with all the wonder and curiosity it held. I would watch the clouds slowly drift by and I would imagine myself in New York City at fashion week. I imagined myself mingling and connecting with established people and wanting to leave my foot print somewhere on this Earth. Fast forward to today and I have had several “pinch me” moments since I’ve been here. I am almost driven to tears because as I am writing this because Mercedes Benz Fashion Week has become my reality. Being a fashion writer has become my reality. Mingling and connecting with established people has become my reality. How did I get here? I fought really hard. I fought with myself. I was my biggest battle. Once I figured out that my self-doubts was the only barrier I had in my way, I was able to get out of my own way and figure out how I would get to where I want to be. I still have a LONG way to go, but I must say that I can finally say I am proud of myself.
I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for the amazing supporters I have in my life (family, friends, colleagues). Thank you!
Today is Day 6 of the 28 day challenge and I kept it simple with a navy blue turtle neck and all black everything. I had a black pleather jacket with black pants and black flat calf boots. I had a great time today at day 2 of the Independent Fashion Blogger’s Conference. I got my hair done by Fekkai, makeup done by Bare Minerals Cosmetics, and I did a DIY project with MailChimp! We had a surprise appearance by Fibi and Clo and they gifted us with some beautiful and surprisingly comfortable sandals.
We had several very informative seminars including a Copyright Law seminar for bloggers, SEO tips and photography tips. I’m glad I took notes because there is so much take away from only two days. I can’t express enough how “worth it” it is to go to this conference if you are serious about blogging and you want to learn more about it.
One of my favorite aspects of the IFB Conference was the community of people. I met so many great and fun people that I can’t wait to develop a relationship with. The blogging community is so small and unified and I really hope it stays this way.
One super exciting thing I wanted to share with you was that Lisa Salzer, CEO and Founder of LuLu Frost Jewelry, responded to one of my tweets! Yesterday I shared with you that I met her in person and she was so inspirational and so encouraging. I tweeted her that I was happy to meet her and she actually responded! It was a big deal to me because she gets tons of people tweeting her all the time and it felt great that she not only pays attention to her supporters but it also shows that she is a humble person.
Stay tuned for tomorrow because I’ll be bringing you some NYFW 2013 coverage straight from the tents at Lincoln Center!
Day 5 of the 28-day challenge I wore a brown jacket with faux fur around the hood and a leopard scarf. I paired these items with black pleather pants and wedge sneakers. This was the perfect outfit for this super cold weather out here in NYC! Last night I studied the map of where I needed to walk to catch the subway and after much confusion and frustration I finally got a sense of where I was in relation to the buildings and streets. Despite all of the studying I had done, I still ended up getting lost, but much to my surprise the people here are very helpful and quite approachable. I finally made it to the subway and when I got off at my stop I managed to get lost again! I literally walked back to my starting point, and went every single direction until I finally was going the correct way. Of course I didn’t ask for directions, that was the pride in me.
Anyway, I finally ended up at the Independent Fashion Blogger’s Conference and I had an amazing, information filled, and fun-filled day! I met super model Tyson Beckford and he was super nice and his abs were super hard, just like I had imagined they would be. I got my makeup done by BareMinerals Cosmetics and they also gave me some free swag as well! I also met Lisa Salzer CEO and Founder of LuLu Frost jewelry line. Her story was very inspiring and touching of how she fought for what she wanted and how she got there. I had an opportunity to speak with her after the seminar and she was so nice and inviting. I let her know how her story resonated with me and she encouraged me to keep going for what I love. I am so glad I met her!
It’s day 4 of the 28 day challenge and I have finally made it to New York City!!! I am very excited, anxious, curious, happy, nervous, confused, and those are just a few of my emotions! Last night as I was packing, I used that time to reflect over the past year and the inception and birth of Wrk It Girl. It came from a place of longing to provide you all with a way to be expressive and independent starting with your style & beauty and encouraging that attitude to bleed into other areas of your life (career, relationship, etc.). My philosophy is if you look good, you feel good; if you feel good, you do good. I realized that it in turn motivated and inspired myself! I have catapulted myself to have a “practice what you preach” attitude and it has led me to many great opportunities, including coming to NYFW for the first time. Wrk It Girl has forced me to be accountable and be a woman of my word. I cannot begin to express the gratitude for the support that Wrk It Girl’s fans has brought me. All of you who have been there since day one, I want you to know that you do not go unnoticed. You all are my Valentine this year and I want you to know how much I love you all and appreciate you all. Thank you so much!
For all of my Valentine’s out there, I am wearing a bright coral colored dress with a floral embroidered vintage coat. I love this look because it is romantic and sexy. It accentuates the small waist and flares out at the bottom for that romantic feel. I paired it with nude heels from Bakers that are so comfortable I can stand in them for hours.
Stayed tuned for more of Wrk It Girl’s adventures, experiences, and our fashion & beauty journey.
Day 3 of the 28 day challenge brings a diamond print vest and dark wash jeans. In the spirit of the challenge I used all items that I already have in my closet. The vest I literally have worn one time. Shame on me. In this process I realized how little use I have gotten out of my current wardrobe. I’m excited for what I can come up with next! I think subconsciously I am in “New-York-mode” because my wardrobe has been very dark, contrary to the color and pizazz I usually gravitate towards. Very interesting…it’s rubbing off on me and I haven’t left yet!
As for Super Bowl Sunday, it was a little blah for me, but I thoroughly enjoyed Beyonce’s performance tonight! She was definitely the highlight of my night. I have been cleaning and organizing all weekend so that nice surprise of Destiny’s Child’s reunion made my weekend! I grew up listening to those women and that was a nice moment. (In case you didn’t know, I am always cleaning and organizing. I’m never satisfied. Just a little side-note about me).
Day 2 of the 28-day challenge brings a denim trench and a floral dress. I have had this trench coat for a while now, but I love and it’s still in great condition! This was actually my very first time wearing my nude pumps that I bought 1 year ago! I had them in the original box and I was organizing my closet and found them! Yay for a pleasant surprise! On this beautiful day I was reflecting and preparing for my upcoming trip to NYC. I have to be honest, I am so nervous! I honestly don’t know what to expect. I’ve been once before, but this time feels different for some reason. I’ll keep you all posted on how it goes! Oh! And don’t forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel because I’ll be sharing some helpful Valentine’s Day tutorials with you all! See you tomorrow!
