Finding a fashion gem is hard and rare, and when you do, you must buy! It’s a known rule. I found this gem of a top not too long ago at a vintage store. I immediately fell in love with it not only because it was my favorite color, but it has a collar and is long sleeved. I know, I’m a nerd at heart. I get way too excited over collared shirts. So I bought it and then wasn’t sure when, where or how I wanted to wear it. I finally had the opportunity when going out for a quick WrkItGirl.com meeting. It was a little chilly out and I knew I wanted to wear this shirt. It was cold enough that I needed a jacket so I figured ‘why not wear a jean jacket on top?’ Long story short, I loved this combination and I really wanted to share it with you! Do you ever buy that one piece that you absolutely had to have, but then it takes you a while to figure out how or where you want to wear it? We’d love to hear about your experience!

My mood was certainly reflected in today’s outfit and ironically it’s the obligatory NYC All-Black outfit. I must say, I was in a pretty “don’t mess with me attitude” all day. From the time I woke up, until now. I think the NYC vibes are rubbing off on me. Or rather they’re starting to get to me. Everyone in such a hurry to get from here to there and they get upset if you’re not going at their pace. I had someone nearly push me out of the way even though everyone was walking in the same direction. I’m usually a positive person and don’t let things get to me, but a person can be pushed around so much before they finally say “hey enough already!” I am just having a moment and will get over the difference in pace in due time. In the meantime, I just need to put a pep in my step! At least I looked cute. That always makes me feel better.

Hey there friends! We have a new tutorial on How to Blow-Dry Curly Hair! Fortunately, the principles in this video can be applied to all hair types! Just protect your hair from the heat, use a round brush, and blow-dry in sections. We hope you enjoy this video and please subscribe to the WrkItGirl channel for more beauty and fashion videos!
Ever since moving to NYC, I have never felt more unproductive in my life. Okay…that is such an exaggeration, but I think you might get my flow. Every one is so busy, they’re in such a hurry and just ‘has somewhere to be’. Whereas myself, I am new here, I can count on one hand the amount of people I know/hangout with, and I would like to be one of those people who has somewhere to be, but I just don’t have anywhere to be. I just don’t. I don’t have appointments, I am not heading to the next major audition, etcetera etcetera. What I can say is that I would love to be one of those people with a purpose, or who seem to have a purpose. I feel funny saying this, because my observations are so indicative that “she’s not from around here”, but I can’t help it. I know I’ll get to where I want to be. I’m just super anxious to dive in and get acquainted with you New York. I’ve dreamed of you all my life and I loved you before I even knew you.

I must say, I am now in love with mixing and matching textures. I always stay in my “safe” zone and only use maybe 2 different textures in all of my looks. This time, I went all out! And I must say, it felt good to be a rebel. I mixed this chunky scarf, with an olive blazer, a lightweight top and leather pants. I think this outfit is perfect for the changing weather here in New York City. What do you think?
The sun is out and I’m jumping for joy! I’m more excited for my skin having the opportunity to see the sun. I am just way too pale. I am almost to the point where I will break down and get a spray tan. Have you tried it before? I’m hearing a lot of great benefits of a spray tan, not to mention you protect you skin by not sun bathing. Maybe I’ll do a spray tan review for you soon! What do you think?
Today I decided on wearing this super comfy and warm sweater since it’s still cold here in New York City. Yes, you heard me right. It’s almost the middle of April and it’s still cold. Since I’m tired of lugging around a bunch of heavy stuffy clothes, I put on my warmest sweater, with this cute jean jacket. In light of it being the spring season, I opted for white everywhere else. Let me be the first to say that if you intend on riding in the subway at all, on any given day in NY, DO NOT WEAR WHITE! I repeat, do not wear white! It’s a disaster waiting to happen. Luckily I was just going in my neighborhood to grab brunch with some of my homegirls.
Today was finally a beautiful day in New York City. The only down side was that it was super windy so it made it feel even colder, but other than that, it was gorgeous! I was able to get in a quick jog in the morning, meet up with 2 friends and even did a little lounging in Central Park. I love days where I have a chance to socialize and also have time to reflect and relax. Life is very busy, and has gotten only busier since moving to New York. I cherish these moments to unwind and enjoy the small things in life.
Many of us are motivated by the fundamental question of “who are you?”. We spend a good portion of our lives “finding ourselves” and going through different experiences and making certain choices because we believe that this will help find who we are. But how do you know when you’re found? Do you have an “ah-ha!” moment? Do you tell yourself “there you are! I was looking all over for you!” For me, I don’t know that I will ever find myself because I am always striving to be a better me. I am hungry to continue to gain knowledge, meaningful relationships and make a real difference. These thoughts came to mind when I saw the words ‘who are you’ written on at the base of a light pole in Brooklyn, NY. I wondered about the person who wrote those words. What were their thoughts when they wrote it? This sense of wonder was flooding my brain while strolling on a cracked, uneven sidewalk on a Sunday afternoon, with my hands in my Kenneth Cole coat because the 32 degree weather in March was not merciful.
So, as you’re reading this, I can almost guarantee you asked yourself the same question. Who are you? We would love to hear your thoughts on this topic. Feel free to comment below.
