We were sent some products from Mary Kay c/o consultant Apryl Allen (firstname.lastname@example.org). We absolutely fell in love with the Baked Eye Trio and the lipgloss! Our favorite thing about the lipgloss was that it’s not sticky like most lipgloss and it goes on very smooth. View our super easy Classic Red Lip Tutorial featuring some of the products we loved!

Our last day we went to The Tents @ Project, ENKVegas, Project MVMNT, and WWD Magic. Project MVMNT was probably one our favorite areas of Magic Market Week because of the funky styles of clothing available and different quirky people we met. There were also people in town from the entertainment industry including rapper T.I. and Socialite Karreuche Tran. We had the opportunity to preview Men’s, Women’s and Accessories brands’ new collections. We had an absolute blast meeting all of the different brands and our fellow Texas Blogger Shalanda Turner of Live-Life-In-Style.com was the reason this was possible for WrkITGirl! Thank you all for visiting and stay tuned for more from WrkITGirl.com!
At the Pool Tradeshow for Magic Market Week 2013, there were so many cool booths of designers and brands like Tatty Devine, 213 Apparel, Butter London, and Sprout Watches. We loved the manicures done at the Butter London booth and their cuticle oil smells delicious. They found local nail artists to come in and hook us up! Our Editor got a bright yellow look in honor of the festivities of Market Week. 213 apparel were making custom t-shirts throughout the day and we were excited to even get a chance for input on future t-shirt styles. We hope one of the ones we selected will make the cut! Tatty Devine had funky and unique accessories. We particularly fell in love with the Tiger necklace because our theme song for the trip was “Roar” by Katy Perry. How appropriate.
Our Editor-in-Chief participated in a “Design a Watch” contest at the Sprout booth. The winning design will be produced and sold next season so we can’t wait to see who won! We made a makeup inspired design with little lipsticks, compacts, and lips all over the watch with all kinds of colors. When you were done, they were so generous as to give us a Sprout watch of our own. Sprout watches are eco-friendly and are NOT PLASTIC! This info made us instant fans of Sprout!

We attended Magic Market Week in Las Vegas, NV this August and we are so excited to share our experience. If you don’t know what Magic Market Week is, it is a jam packed 4 days of connecting brands to designers and buyers and basically to network, learn, and make connections.
The first day we hung around Sourcing at Magic and WSA at Magic. WSA at Magic was especially fun with all of the different types of fun shoes on display. One of our favorites were Red Kiss shoes and Lasonia.
We also saw a lot of the new trends all the way up to 2015 and sat in on some very valuable seminars about the business of fashion. We can’t wait for what’s next.
Our Celebrity Style inspiration for this weekend is Nicole Richie’s boho chic look while taking a cool stroll. This super simple yet stylish look only needs a bootcut jean and white t-shirt. To give that stylish “I ain’t got no worries but I’m still hot” look, just add a striped scarf, black headband, oversize sunnies and a pop of color with a hobo bag. We would love to see your version of this look! Just hashtag your looks using #wrkitgirl on Instagram or Twitter and we’ll feature you on!

Are you ready for school? We are, well sorta. To lift your spirits we’ve brought you the scoop on the latest back to school fashions! We also share with you the best ways to rock these trends. The best thing is that they are interchangeable and you can wear in many different ways.
Plaid: Plaid has made it’s comeback and there are so many ways to rock it! Try wearing plaid pants with a crisp white blouse or a black tank and jean vest. You can also wear plaid accessories like a clutch or backpack or the classic plaid skirt with any outfit!
Oxfords: This trend is by far a favorite here at WrkITGirl and it’s so versatile. Wear oxfords with plaid or you can wear with distressed jeans, harem pants or shorts.
Distressed Jeans: These are the perfect way to make an outfit automatically hip and up to date. You can wear yours with a bomber jacket & round sunnies for more of a retro 90s feel or you can wear with a simple white tee and oxfords for a relaxed yet stylish look.
Sporty Accessories: Sporty Accessories are not just for the gym anymore! You can rock your colorful gym shoes with distressed boyfriend jeans, rolled up at the bottom, and paired with a plain tee and a cap. You can also wear.
Ankle Booties: You can wear your ankle booties with a dress and a skinny belt, you also wear them with distressed boyfriend jeans or with shorts, white tee and a blazer.
Round Sunnies: Round Sunnies can be rocked with any thing! Wear them with plaid, a sundress, a romper, jeans, shorts, whatever it is your heart desired. This is the most versatile thing on here!
Monday nights are the new Friday here in Houston! We were invited to Café 4212 by Music Manager/Promoter Tay Mitch to check out a new hot spot. We love a place with good vibes, good music, and overall amazing energy so we had to see what the buzz was about. After stepping in to this quaint spot with dim lighting, an artsy crowd and live music, you’d think you’re in the movie Love Jones. Wishing Larenz Tate would pop out of nowhere and bust out in poetry, we enjoyed some live music by local Houston artist Danielle Fortune. Her Beyonce-esque vocals filled the room and her vivacious personality set the mood and totally made up for Larenz not being there. The crowd was full of ambitious young professionals, grown folk and everyone had their own unique style. After seeing and greeting some other industry friends, we were able to hear for the first time Houston singer Prince Cannon. He performed a few cover songs including one by Jagged Edge, and then performed some original works featuring local rapper ShoStoppa. If that wasn’t enough, rapper Kirko Bangz showed up towards the end! What an amazing and fun night. Check out some pictures from the festivities and we’ll keep you posted on more right here on WrkITGirl.com!

Rebecca Briscoe holding NHL Stanley Cup at ESPYS Awards 2012
It’s that time again to put the spotlight on a young woman who is confident, inspirational, determined to make her dreams come true and stylish!
This month the spotlight is on Rebecca Briscoe who is the National Entertainment Reporter for Houston Style Magazine and is a PR consultant. With humble beginnings in Port Arthur, TX she went to LSU, then she started her career as a model. She then went to TSU for her masters degree which led to a career in education, and has now found herself at her calling in the Entertainment industry bringing the latest interviews with your favorite athletes, celebrities, and covering various events around the country. We are so happy to have Rebecca as our Wrk IT Girl spotlight for the month of July. See her interview below!
Rebecca Briscoe describes her style as “Femme Fatale”
Rebecca with Mayor Parker
Wrk IT Girl: When did you know or how did you come about being in PR & becoming a National Entertainment Reporter for Houston Style Magazine?
Rebecca Briscoe: I never envisioned myself in PR. My aunt actually said to me one day “you are too pretty to pay to go to these parties you go to. You need to start covering these events”. So I started doing local interviews, and then I got an interview with a grammy award winning producer. Not too long after, I was getting on a plane and a woman said she was praying for me. She said to me “always be prepared. Keep pushing. Don’t give up. Stay focused. You got your image, keep that image. You got your cute little short haircut, stay yourself.”
Wrk IT Girl: What has been your biggest obstacle in your professional career?
Rebecca Briscoe: When I first was getting started and I tried building relationships wit Media people and trying to get started in PR Consulting, I would try to ask questions to learn more and I didn’t get the reception I thought I’d get. People are not willing to help. But I look at it as, if you don’t have set backs, headaches, if you don’t have that how are you going to have a catalyst for change?
Wrk IT Girl: What is your greatest accomplishment?
Rebecca Briscoe: I am a survivor. I was honored to be one of the top 25 women of Houston. I am have been able to adapt to change and figure things out. Remaining humble is another accomplishment.
Wrk IT Girl: What advice would you give your younger self?
Rebecca Briscoe: READ! Read until it hurts. I was in magnet programs when I was in school when I was younger and school came easy to me. But once I got to undergrad I struggled because of it. I really had a hard time in college. I would tell her to read.
Wrk IT Girl: People look up to your confidence and self-assurance. Were you always this way or did you have a turning point where you developed this trait?
Rebecca Briscoe: Yes absolutely. I’ve always been this way. My Uncle said that when I was a baby, I didn’t want to eat peas. When they tried to feed them to me, I spit them out. That when they knew I am not going to do something if I don’t want to. He said I was self-rightous at 6 months old. I went to the beat of my own drum. I drive to do what I wanted. I am never scared to go against the grain.
Wrk IT Girl: How would you describe your personal style?
Rebecca Briscoe: Femme Fatale. I use what I got to get what I need. Men love sexy, black women. Men love feminine & soft women. That’s what sells. I’ve gotten lots of love and attention for my style.
Wrk IT Girl: What future projects do you have coming up and what can we expect to see next from Rebecca Briscoe?
Rebecca Briscoe: I mean, I would love to do a reality show. So that people can see the real me. See who is Rebecca Briscoe. I would love to do more consulting, media consulting. Crisis Management. I want to get on a network eventually. And just keep making history.
