I am loving the cropped top trend lately! I never thought that I would give in but I bought a few and I must say they are so versatile. You can wear them with a maxi skirt, shorts, jeans, and so many other ways. You can even wear them over a bathing suit top like I did in the picture below. I paired this cropped top with a black high-low skirt which is also on trend and I accented the bright florals with a bright pink clutch.
I think that it goes to show if you don’t try something new, even it you don’t think it’s for you, then you’ll never know if it’s REALLY not for you! I am so happy I went out of my comfort zone and have been rocking the cropped tops. I’m even happier in this hot weather with the decision I made.
How do you wear your cropped tops? Thanks for visiting!
As I sat listening to one of my all time favorite songs “Blue in Green” by Miles Davis from his Kind of Blue album, I was motivated to paint my nails a blue color. The song is more of a melancholy yet angelic song. The color I chose is more bright and sunshine-like, not a mellow color. But I still enjoy it all the same. You can also see my attempt at nail art on my pinky finger. I quickly realized that was a no-go and gave up. I’ll get better at it sooner or later. I love using color to express my mood or to portray how a song has made me feel. I love the way music can get me in a certain mood or inspire me to do something. Anything. What inspires you?
Joy is really an amazing woman and accomplished woman who has overcome many obstacles to get to her position today as the Fashion & Beauty editor of the Houston Chronicle. She is an inspiration and empowerment to young women because of that tenacity she had demonstrated throughout her career . Her personal testament is proof that if you work hard you’ll get to where you want to be. One piece of advice that stuck with me was to “add color to your work”. I thought that choice of words was interesting but true! If you are vibrant and colorful in our descriptions and word choices then you’ll have a more appealing article!
I did some window shopping the other day (day 21 of 28 day challenge) at the outlets but I didn’t find anything that inspired me. I was actually on a mission to find a new outfit that I loved, but I was in a bad fashion mood or something because I felt uninspired and numb about every single piece I found. I did stumble upon an ah-mazing pair of spiked heels from the Steve Madden store but they hurt like a mo-fo so unfortunately they were a no-go.
Side Note: One thing that I don’t suggest is shopping in heels. I underestimated the amount of walking I was going to be doing and I wore these 5 inch wedges. I actually did alright until the very end and my throbbing and swollen red feet were ready to bust out of my cute little gold sandals. So for future ref, no heels when shopping!
For the Saks Prom Blogger event a couple weeks ago (and day 19 of the 28-day challenge) I decided to go with white pants however I didn’t know what I wanted to wear with them! So after getting all done up and getting my outfit came together I realized I was wearing black & white. That was a testament to my inner fashionista by subconsciously staying on trend. Gotta love it!
I am loving my latest mani! I did it myself and I’m so proud. My biggest beauty splurges that I have had is my nail care. I used to wear acrylic nails and was never late for my refills every two weeks. I also went in for a polish change every week. I started to go over board and got designs and crystals, etc. I finally made myself a budget and realized I was spending way too much on manis & pedis.
I was motivated to make a change because I have been wanting to invest in other beauty products (i.e. Clarisonic, Naked 1 & 2 palettes, PMD-personal microdermabrasion device, and other makeup). I saw that my savings were doing some good so now I’m focused on getting rid of debt before I invest in those products. I’m so close I can taste it!
Anywho, I’ve had a difficult time learning to do my own nails but it’s been a very rewarding experience. I learned how unsanitary nail salons are (the most sanitary I’ve been to and will ever go back to is Princess Nails in California. They also have a location in New York) and I have learned what’s best for my routine. I’ll share with you in another post my favorite nail products but I wanted to show my latest Mani!

6 bloggers on panel for the Saks Prom Blogger Fashion Presentation
A couple fridays ago I went to the Saks Prom Blogger Fashion Presentation and I had the best time! There were light bites, drinks (virgin of course for the youngsters), a dj, and makeup presentations by MAC cosmetics. I was actually on panel talking about the latest trends for prom (seen in the pictures below). The models graciously walked the runway in some of the most popular looks selected by the 6 bloggers.

The event was to support Mia’s Closet, which is a non-profit organization that helps provide clothing to underprivileged children. The dresses that were donated were for the young ladies of Lil Audrey’s Safe Place Foundation to provide them with a dress for prom. I had the pleasure of meeting the Executive Director of Mia’s closet, Chelsea Coffey. She was so sweet and I was so happy to be apart of such an amazing cause.

I also had the pleasure of connecting with Rebecca Briscoe who is the National Entertainment Reporter for Houston Style. She is an amazing woman and inspiring woman. I cannot wait to give you guys a more in-depth look into these women. They totally evoke “Wrk IT Girl” status. Fearless, ambitious, and doing it all with grace.

Thank you so much to Saks Fifth Avenue at the Houston Galleria for inviting me to be apart of such an amazing event!
So this is the last and final day of my Playa Del Carmen trip and Day 18 of 28 day challenge of outfits. I am so sad to leave this gorgeous place. You have to try and make a trip out to this beautiful place in Mexico! I will be honest and say that I was a little nervous about the safety issue, but it’s absolutely safe out here! As long as you stay on the resort, or if you go to town, make sure to not go in any unmarked vehicles that try to pose as a taxi.
I hadn’t been on a vacation in 3 years so I feel so blessed and happy to get an opportunity to do so. This last outfit was a simple cut off tank that I found at Forever 21 about a year ago. My shorts are from Abercrombie & Fitch. It might be time to retire the shorts though because they were so tight and hurt my crotch. I should have tried them on before hand because that last time I wore them was about 3 years ago.
Day 17 of the 28 day challenge and my 5th day at Playa was pretty chill. I went back into town to just chill on the beach and I did some shopping. I was so lazy this day and it felt amaze! My favorite thing about being on the beach was ordering guacamole. The guacamole is absolutely fresh and yummy. I must say it’s almost an addiction, but a healthy addiction so no worries here. The weather was absolutely amazing and the blue water complimented my accidental mismatch bathing suit perfectly. When I went shopping at Target I found this gorgeous neon orange bathing suit that I had to have. I’m the type of person that once I make up my mind, it’s over. It’s done. I have to have it. Well, when I got home I realized that I forgot to buy the matching bottoms! By the time I discovered this, it was too late for me to go back to the store so I dug in my drawer to find something that could possibly go with this neon orange top and there it was. It was like a piece of gold was glimmering in my eyes amongst the mass of bathing suits I own. It was white and and white goes with anything! I actually almost got rid of that white bathing suit because the top doesn’t fit me anymore. I guess this is a time when clothes hoarding comes in handy!
